The Savages Amongst Us

We are on the eve of 2010 and yet from the time you rise in the morning to the moment you lie down at night you have encountered a variety of obstacles and problems that can sometimes seem more than a bit nutso. From the bi-polar co-worker, to the commuter picking his nose and flicking his scabs on your leg to the retail clerk who refuses to open her register so you can get the hell out of the store. You arrive home exhausted from your hectic day and your “soul mate” starts an argument with you over an issue you’re not even familiar with. What gives?

After careful thought I’ve decided that your problem is probably Savages. Although studies show 30-60% of the American population suffer (at some point) from a mental disorder that does not make them a Savage. What seems to be the case is that many Savages suffer from a mix of different mental disorders. With so many advances in technology, medicine and education one would think modern society would be more civil than ever. But it’s not. Modern society is composed of a mix of Civils (civil people) and Savages with those who suffer from mental disorders falling on all sides of the spectrum.

These Savages pose as politicians, work mates, bosses, family members, lovers, train conductors, fellow commuters, neighbors, store clerks, bill collectors and more. Material wealth, degrees, business acumen and well-crafted trickery does not make one civil. And yet, we Civils are constantly being bombarded by Savages who want to convince us otherwise (i.e. Paris Hilton, Madoff, Kanye West).

Unfortunately there are no scientific numbers to support the amount of Savages loose amongst us so I composed a checklist below to help you spot one. I recommend whence coming in contact with a Savage, you 1) throw out any expectations you had of the person as most savages remain that way till death; 2) find a way to remove yourself from the company of the person. Their savagery only gets worse when a Civil enables their bad behavior; 3) Savages can quickly send a Civil into a mental disorder or substance abuse. This list is to help you spot a Savage as quickly as possible so as to maintain your own personal sanity. Good luck!

***Savages in modern day society use violence, bullying, lying and trickery to communicate their feelings and support their self-serving actions. Please note that when feeling threatened by civil society they become very aggressive and roam in packs.

Top 25 attributes of a Savage:

1. They strongly believe in a cause but the only way to communicate their idea is through aggressiveness (i.e. PETA supporters throwing paint on people wearing fur, the screaming matches at the health-care town halls summer 2009). They behave similarly like the witch hunters of the 1800’s.
2. Screams and uses aggressive body language to intimidate others (i.e. aggressively crowds outside abortion clinics, kills doctors who perform abortions).  Similar to the crowds who beat and stone women accused of adultery.
3. Blocking universal health care because it allows abortions. Feels eerily similar to the supporters of Jim Crow laws in the South.
4. Refusing gay couples the right to marry because of the Bible. Similar to those who claimed that the same Bible supported slavery and stated that blacks weren’t actual humans. At one point the Bible also supported colonization of Africa and the Opium wars in Asia. Who exactly are these Bible translators?
5. Killing animals for sport when roughly 15% of the American population is starving . Shooting game from a helicopter does not make the act any less savage.
6. Paying someone less money, not offering them a job, etc…based on their race, gender, disability, etc… There are no excuses for this at all.
7. Dislikes, hates or judges someone negatively based on the race, gender, disability etc… Sounds like Hitler ideology.
8. People who don’t hold the door open for the person in front of or behind them. Manners are a key attribute to civility.
9. Takes kindness and civility for weakness or stupidity.
10. Believes the nice guys finish last and are not as interesting and/or intriguing as the so-called bad asses. Most bad asses are Savages who never amount to much and who are jealous of the nice guy.
11. Believes an accusation equals guilt. They also can accept that Christ was crucified for there sins 2000 years after the crucifixion, yeah right.
12. Are delusional. This is separate from any form of mental disorders they may suffer from.
13. Hypocrites. They don’t mean what they say and they don’t say what they mean. It’s a toxic mixture of delusion and lying.
14. Lies and cheats. Unable to to be mature and just be honest. The more they lie the worse it gets (i.e. the Bush administration).
15. Commits rape, pedophilia, murder, verbal, emotional, and all forms of physical abuse to people, animals and the earth.
16. Fighting at Walmart, CVS, Fairway and any other retail store. Blow out sale or Black Friday is not an excuse.
17. Pimps, sells, trades another human being for any reason.
18. Sabotages, gossips, or will conduct any form of malicious act in the work place.
19. Steals from family, lovers, co-workers or any individual. Civils work hard for what we have and no Savage has more right to my hard-earned money than me.
20. Greed.
21. Stinginess.
22. Preys on children.
23. Dirtiness. Lack of personal hygiene. A filthy home or personal space. Unwashed hands or hair. Yuck!
24. Laziness. Get a job or volunteer, clean your house, take care of yourself and your family. If, after you get moving, you still need help then yes you deserve it but not before.
25. Ego takes precedence over consideration of others.

Special note to Civils:

On rare occasions it is possible for a Savage to evolve into a Civil but they have to really want it on their own. No amount of coaxing or enabling from a Civil will bring them out of the toxic savage universes they live in. The best thing to do is to steer clear of their poisonous paths and find other Civils to enjoy life with!
