Hey Kid, Walk to School or Get A Job!

291279309 4f1917a011 m Hey Kid, Walk to School or Get A Job!I don’t know about you but I am at my wits end with the New York Metro system. I mean they just raised fares this year to $2.25 (one-way fare) after raising rates last year. A local monthly unlimited pass is a whopping $89. Now the MTA is complaining AGAIN about budget deficits and are taking free metro cards from city school kids and cutting services on already crowded trains and buses. Who is running the New York metro system, a gang of mobsters with no financial acumen?

If anyone in the office of the MTA knows how to balance a cash flow sheet then the budget deficits of yester-year should have been fixed after the many fares hikes and services cuts already enacted.  My guess is someone is stealing money and we folks are paying for someone’s yacht and five thousand dollar shower curtain.

You’d think only a thug would take candy from a baby but why should the New York MTA be left out of the fun. Why should city kids trying to get to school be given any special allowances. The additional cost to families with school age kids will only start at a severe $1068/year, per unlimited monthly pass.

metro card 300x193 Hey Kid, Walk to School or Get A Job!One of the attractions of living in New York City for many people is the fact that you don’t need to own a car to get around. And rightly so, since owning a car is super expensive. Car insurance can start at $5k/year for comprehensive service and if you don’t have access to private garage parking ($500+ month) then you better be ready to fight for street parking. Driver beware: if you don’t comply with street parking rules and time limits your car will be towed within minutes of committing a penalty. Even if you follow the tow truck to the garage prepare to fork out a minimum of $250+ to get your car back.

Without a functional and affordable metro system, unemployment at an all time high and salaries stagnant, New York City is truly a metropolis for the rich. The exuberant costs of living in this city continue to squeeze out the very people who keep it going.

The New York MTA Board is officially a pack of savages in my opinion.
